Figuring out the exact dimensions of something on the screen always involves guess-work, but it can be done much easier with the appropriate tools. Ruler doesn't do much besides what its name implies. It is a simple ruler for your screen. As you might have guessed, you can use it to measure any graphical elements on the screen. The ruler is quite easy to handle and it comes with a few interesting options.

Ruler is absolutely free and you can have it up and running in no time, since it doesn't need to be installed. It doesn't ask for any special tools or services and it can be used on any popular Windows platform.

When launched, the application will immediately place a ruler on your screen. You can move it anywhere on the screen and resize it to different lengths by clicking and dragging. Dimensions can be measured in pixels and Ruler makes this quite easy. The ruler's length is displayed on the tool itself and it is updated in real time as you resize it.

To make things easier, the ruler is transparent and you can choose between several transparency levels. A few options can be found when right clicking the tool. Besides changing the transparency you can also make it vertical, change its length and height by specific values and you can also lock its size, so you don't resize it by accident. Duplicating the ruler is another useful option you will find, which is perfect for measuring multiple dimensions on the same elements.

Measuring anything on the screen doesn't involve any effort when using Ruler.

Pros

You can use Ruler to take precise measurements on your screen in pixels. The ruler can be resized and moved on the fly. You can set different transparency levels, duplicate it and place it vertically or horizontally.

Cons

There are no other measurement units you can use, besides pixels. Also, a snapping feature would make Ruler even better.
